I took my Sony Cybershot digital camera to a bm trip. it was in the outside pocket of my bag. somehow a large quantity of sand made it's way into the pocket... and into the camera. rendering it completely inoperable.
I figured this was no big deal, it just needed to be cleaned. then I learned that "grit" voided my entire extended warranty. and that it will cost $200 in labor just to clean out the lens unit... which still may not work. or the option of $295 for a whole new lens assembly. I think the camera was $350, so that seems ridiculous to spend nearly as much to "possibly" fix it.
shit shit fuck damn. fuck me. fuck me. fuck me. shit shit shit.
does this sound right? that it's that much $? and how much of a freakin moron am I to have done this? my first camera in 12 years and I break it completely in less than a year. shit shit shit.

Sun, May 29, 2005 - 3:30 PMi've gotten some of the best shots of all time with a cheapo panoramic camera i got in a thrift store for $.99--it's basically a plastic box with a hole in it. i know, it ain't digital, but if i were on the playa, i'd bring the cheapest piece of shit i owned as long as it could capture an image. Panoramic seems appropriate for that landscape too.
sorry to hear about your camera. i'm still not ready for the BM scene myself, especially battling the elements like that.
